Let there be light!
Well it's been a while since I last posted, but you haven't missed much. From the moment the seeds peaked their little heads out of their tiny peat moss blankets, the excitement has been pretty minimal, especially if you're not personally and financially invested like I am. So for those of you following along, if anyone I thank you, the rapid growth going forward will hopefully keep everyone entertained. After seeing the little girls pop up and orientate themselves to the light, I've already been fantasizing about smoking this stuff, and more importantly, not fucking up this grow. My last few attempts as a pot farmer have had mixed results, I'm hoping that complete control over all variables will ensure success...we'll see how that goes, so far so good!!
Now to some specifics, after the seeds peeked through the surface climbing to the light, I've kept them on a PH'd water diet and that's it, nothing but 5.5 PH water and 24 hours of sun. The miracle of nature in full affect. Everything was going smoothly until Day 15, where I noticed some discoloration in the leaves. It looked almost like salmon skin with a little sheen and a couple spots of brown, my first thought was FUCK!!! I've already messed these plants up and I'm only 2 weeks into the grow. Fortunately for me there is a thing called the inter webs and it can teach you how to do anything you want to do. So after some searching, I came to the conclusion that it could be many, many different things with all similar symptoms, awesome. That's one frustrating part about growing things; I'm very quickly learning that many problems show themselves in very similar fashions, it just takes practice and nohow to get good at diagnosing the minutiae. I'm nowhere near that yet. After careful consideration it appears the issue is either PH related or light intensity related. I checked the PH and sure enough its a 7, which is too high, they should be between 5.5 and 6.5 for a hydro set up. The first tip I've learned and would pass it on to anyone attempting to grow weed is most problems start with PH issues, so get a PH meter before you start growing anything, and make that the first thing you check every time you duck into your tent. I also lowered the lamp ballast to 100% from "Super Lumens", hopefully that'll correct any problems with future growth and not kill my 4 little gals! A couple other things to note, it's been pretty dry in SoCal over the past few weeks so I've added a "Cool Mist" humidifer to keep the air slightly damp in the tent, I've read veg state plants like the added moisture in the air to speed up growth. Well, that's all for now, I'll report back if the corrections help, something tells me they will.
